3 Reasons To Consider Changing Your Garage Into An Office

In light of the recent global changes with COVID, many people are now working from home. That can both be a good thing and a struggle for people. If you do not have a designated place to call a home office, you can find yourself distracted. If you have a garage space, this can be the perfect area to turn into an office. Let’s discuss some of the reasons why you should consider doing a garage conversion for your home office.

1. It Is Away From The Home

Let’s face it; it can be very distracting working from home, especially when your family is also home most of the time due to the pandemic. Even if your spouse stays home with small children, not due to the pandemic, a lot is going on in the home.

This can be a struggle to get your work done. In the garage, it’s detached from the house. It allows you a separation from home and work, even though they are pretty much in the same place. Sometimes, you need that separation to break free from work at the end of the workday.

2. Increase The Value Of Your Home

The living space in your home is where the square footage costs the most. The garage is at least half the square footage value when you are looking to sell. If you were to add valuable space to your garage, you could increase your home’s value with a home office.

Whether you are looking to sell soon or not, it is always good to look at the big picture when you are making changes to your home. On average, there is a ten percent increase in your home’s value by doing garage conversions. For example:

  • Your Home Value May Be $200 Per Square Foot

  • Your Garage Space May Only Be $100 Per Square Foot

  • With A Garage Office, That Part Will Go Up TO $200 Per Square Foot

  • The Whole Garage Doesn’t Increase, Just The Added Living Space

3. It Is Affordable

Anytime you are remodeling your home, it can make you a little sick to your stomach when you talk about costs. When you add a room to your home, you are talking about a lot of construction, including foundation work. That is where your costs can begin to add up.

If you already have a garage, you should think about the possibility of converting it into an office. You can either use space that is already there that you aren’t using, or you can build space above it. Either way, you are looking at a much more affordable project than foundation work and adding space to your home.

Think About Your Options

It is always good to way out your options when making these changes to your home. Talk with a professional and get their opinion. They can help you think about things that you may not have realized matters. You can also get an idea if this is worth you investing in or not.
