Why You Should Keep A First Aid Kit On The Job Site

Every business should have a first aid kit on hand at all times. It is helpful when those unexpected accidents happen. Even with more serious situations, it can help you when it takes an ambulance to get to you.

What Does A First Aid Kit Contain

There are different levels of first aid kits that you can get. Depending on the type of work you do will help you decide on the type you will need. Some are basic needs, and some contain more variety of supplies.

For example, here are some of the items that are commonly found in all first aid kits:

  • Gloves

  • Eye Protection

  • Gauze

  • Tylenol, Advil, and Benadryl

  • Mask

  • Medical Tape

  • Bandaids

  • Neosporin

  • Hydrogen Peroxide

  • Antiseptic Wipes

  • Alcohol Prep Pads

  • Thermometer

Some bigger kits may also contain:

  • Tourniquet

  • Trauma Shears

  • Ear Plugs

  • Burn and Pressure Dressings

  • Elastoplast Dressing

  • Pen Light

  • Permanent Marker

  • Nasal Trumpet

  • BP Cuff

  • Self-Inflating Resuscitation Bag

  • Pregnancy Test

  • And Much More

Routinely Restock The First Aid Kit

When first aid kits are used, it is important to restock them. When an emergency occurs, and you go to grab the gear, but it wasn't restocked, it will leave you in a bind. It should be general practice to restock it after every use.

The good idea is to have a schedule that should be checked at the beginning of each month. The appointed person should ensure that all necessary items are accounted for in the first aid kit. That way, you are always prepared for when a problem arises.

Some Jobs Are Higher Risks Than Others

There are jobs that people do that can pose a higher risk than others. You may not even realize how risky a job is until you are in the midst of it. To help protect yourself, employees, and customers, a first aid kit should always be on hand.

In most businesses, it is required to have one by law. It is not meant to take professional medical attention but to help in the transition. Everything from grocery stores, department stores, construction sites, and more should have a kit available.

First Aid Training

Many businesses require first aid training to be an employee. It is excellent training to have. When an emergency occurs, sometimes panic can take over you quickly. If you have the training, you can help yourself stay calm because you know what to do.

Some businesses will cover the costs for first aid training if they require it. Most of the time it is a combined class of first aid and CPR. Whether you need it for work or not, it is beneficial information to have.

Better To Be Prepared Than Not

You never know when or where you are going to be when someone needs medical attention. There are times it can happen at work, and you will need a first aid kit. Other times it could occur while you are out at a store or another location.
