What is Poly Sheeting Used For?

Polyethylene Sheeting, also known as poly sheeting, is a general-purpose poly film with a range of standard and heavy-duty uses. It can be used in construction projects, paint protection, agriculture applications, and equipment. A simple way to think of it is a plastic wrap used to cover things we need to protect.

Poly sheeting can be recycled and it breaks down in the sun if it does not have a UV additive to protect it. Poly sheeting is also used in multiple industries by companies and individuals around the world. It is the most common form of plastic used in a variety of packaging, industrial, and construction materials.

Polyethylene comes in a variety of densities but poly sheeting is commonly made out of low-density polyethylene. Ply sheeting comes in a variety of sizes and thicknesses. The type you need depends on your application and how it will be used.

Uses for Poly Sheeting

Temporary Protection

When a hurricane strikes or a natural disaster is headed your way, poly sheeting can be used to create a temporary shelter of protection. You can string it up and cover windows and doors that can hold up to the wind. They are often stronger than wood and still allow the light inside.

Coverings

Need to cover your outdoor furniture, pieces of equipment, or woodpiles from the harsh temperatures and elements? Poly sheeting can help you. Simply cover your item and add grommets or hems to keep the sheeting in place. You can also weigh the ends down or tie them down if you find this easier.

Under Slab Vapor Barrier

Moisture resides in the ground and will always find its way to the surface. Moisture is a huge problem for concrete slabs and the flooring you lay on top of the slab. Using an under-slab vapor barrier such as poly sheeting blocks the water from reaching the concrete.

Drop Clothes

Plan on painting your whole house? Or just a room? Poly sheeting makes a great floor covering and can protect your floors and furniture when you decide to paint. Heavy-duty poly sheeting is resistant to tears and rips and can be reused for your next painting project.

Weed Control

You can use poly sheeting to help and prevent the growth of weeds. Simply put poly sheeting down before planting your crops or flowers and instant weed control. It also helps you retain moisture in your soil while warming the soil in cooler weather.

Fun

Looking for the kids a fun activity to do this summer? Simply grab a roll of poly sheeting a water hose and a hot summer day. Have the kids change into some bathing suits and enjoy a slip and slide made of poly sheeting.

Whether you are looking to seal off a room to paint, laying new flooring, building a house, making your own haunted house, or flower beds, poly sheeting has you covered.
