DIY Maleficent Costume

Last weekend I dressed up like Maleficent. There are some challenging things to putting this costume together. I think you can wear just about anything you like as long as you have the horns down.

How to Put Together A Maleficent Costume

You need an all black outfit. Look at the newest Maleficent movie to see what Angelina Jolie is wearing. That will give you great inspiration.

I wore a long dress and had a black cape. I also made my own horns. It took some doing, but I successfully put them together. You can go HERE to read what I did to make my horns.

How to Do The Makeup

I'm not the best at doing makeup. I watched a video tutorial to help me out with my look. You need to have black eye shadow and red lipstick as the main two pieces of makeup.

The tutorial said to use false eyelashes. I did not use those for my look. Instead, I applied several layers of mascara.

Have fun this year. Hope you figure out how to make your own DIY Maleficent Halloween costume.

What to Use Instead of a Headboard

I've not owned a headboard and foot board for my bed since the day I got married. It has kind of always bothered me that the wall seemed so bare behind my bed. A few years ago, I had an idea to hang curtains from the ceiling above my bed, intertwined with Christmas lights. Ever since then, I have been in love with my room.

Here is how I did It

The first thing I did to accomplish this look was to hang a wooden dowel rod from my ceiling. We took small metal hooks and screwed them into the ceiling. Then we fed a dowel rod that was small enough through the hooks. After that, I measured the distance from the ceiling to a few inches beside my bed to know how long I needed the curtains to be. I owned white sheer curtains, but knew they would not be long enough. I ended up sewing four curtain pieces together. The middle seem hangs over the dowel rod, and the two other seems are sewn together where I have it tied back.

Once I put the curtain over the dowel rod, I fed a string of Christmas lights over as well. One strand of 200 lights was enough to reach a plug nearby. I nestled the lights in the fabric and tied the lights and material together at the sides. Then I sewed on a small ring to the ties so that I could hold back the curtains. With just a small nail on each side of my bed, I was able to put the rings on these nails to hold them back.

This project took me a few hours to accomplish, but it was well worth it. To check out some of my other DIY projects, check out Love Hope Adventure

DIY Tutorial: Painting on Jeans for a Different Look

I have a jean jacket that I haven't worn much. Mainly, it just needed some embellishments. For that reason, I started looking around for things I could do with my jean jacket to make it look more stylish. I decided that painting a design on my jean jacket would be the best way to express myself. I'm really happy with how the design turned out.

Watch this video and you will see the design and what I used to make it,

How to Make a Skirt From Jeans

I don't know about you, but I have had my fair share of jeans that were no longer wearable for one reason or another. Mainly, they get holes in the inside seems of the jeans, and I do not think they are good to wear any longer. Instead of throwing out my old jeans, if I can turn them into a skirt, then I go ahead and do that. I have made many cute jean skirts from old jeans.

DIY Skirt From Jeans

In order to do this project, you will need a pair of old jeans, scissors, a measuring tape and a sewing machine. You will need to be able to sew a few straight lines, so beginner crafters should be able to manage this craft.

The final product looks like this picture below. For the full instructions with pictures, go here to see how to make this project.

I saw this really cute idea on how to paint bobby pins and metal hair clips with nail polish. It was such a simple and fun project, that I thought I would share it with you. I played around with a few color combinations, but ultimately, I decided that glitter and lighter colored nail polishes worked best.

How to Make a Paper Flower

My son recently moved into my guest room, and that was an adjustment for me to make when company comes to visit. Last time I had some friends come, I really wanted them to feel special, even though they were going to be staying in an 8 year old's room. So, I searched around for a way to inexpensively decorate their room, and I found just the thing.

I took some white Christmas lights that I have, a curtain I do not use, and made some paper flowers to add to the mix. This is what I came up with to turn the child's room into a grown up room.

Here are a few other pictures of the flowers a little more close up.
